Checking In

Using the Web to build efficiencies for studies requiring offline activity.

The Checking In study, conducted in coordination with Emory University, is a 12-month longitudinal study conducted entirely online to determine the acceptance of at-home HIV tests and explore important behavioral issues that may be driving higher HIV rates in different age and racial groups among MSM.

Cyclogram designed and deployed the branding and advertising campaign to recruit MSM into the Cyclogram designed and developed online portal. All eligible participants, once screened, took an online survey and then, stratified by race/ethnicity, were directed into an online-only or an SMS-only research arm.

Cyclogram built secure data collection and communications methodologies to communicate shipping information to HomeAccess, which fulfilled and received the at-home testing kits. This bi-directional level of communication allowed study coordinators to see who had received a test, who had returned a completed test, and results data.

The resulting data set, all developed by Cyclogram, includes data from over 900 men, followed over 12 months, with HIV testing data. Engagement rates suggest, particularly for men of color, SMS is the best data collection technique.
